Zengyu Paul Discoe was ordained by Suzuki Roshi in 1970 and spent many years in Japan studying traditional woodworking and building. He is an artisan and student of Japanese culture who has designed for Berkeley Art Museum, Tassajara and Green Gulch Zen Centers. He founded and for many years ran Joinery Structures, an Oakland-based design-build company. Since he has retired from full time work, we are lucky that he has circled back to doing Zen teaching, here at BZC and at other temples in our lineage.
